The On-Going Room Sign-Up Process will provide another opportunity for current on-campus students to possibly obtain an upperclassman room assignment for Fall 2009 –Spring 2010. The process is restricted to students who participated in the Housing Lottery processes but have not yet received university housing for the upcoming school year.
How Room Vacancies Become Available
The VCU Central Housing Office will continue to receive room cancellations after the end of the Spring 2009 semester and on into the summer months. We cannot foresee when cancellations will be received, nor how many rooms will become available. But we typically receive additional cancellations in May, June and July due to students withdrawing, transferring out, etc. Once these cancellations are processed, they create room vacancies in the housing computer database.
How On-Going Room Sign-Up Works
You do not need a lottery number for the On-Going Room Sign-Up process. When the process begins at 12 noon on Monday, May 11, 2009, your 2009-2010 Housing Lottery application will automatically provide you with access to the online Residential Gateway and to the room vacancies in the database.
How To Find A Room
As in the previous Housing Lottery processes, the On-Going Room Sign-Up process will be first-come, first-assigned. However, it will not be a one-time process. It will continue throughout the summer months, between May 11 and July 31, 2009.
You will be able to log into the Residential Gateway 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week to check out the available vacancies in the 12-month upperclassmen halls (the Ackell Residence Center, the Broad & Belvidere Apartments, the Cary & Belvidere Apartments, and Ramz Hall) or in the Gladding Residence Center Apartments (a 9-month hall).
You may check the room vacancies on a daily basis throughout the summer months. However, there is no guarantee a vacancy will become available in your preferred residence hall during that time. Remember, too, that other students will also be checking for available rooms.
Just like in the previous Lotteries, it will be your decision to choose or to turn down any available on-campus space. Once you have signed up for a room, you will no longer have access to the Residential Gateway and will no longer be able to view any new room vacancies.
How To Begin
Before you begin the On-Going Room Sign-Up process for the first time, open and print a copy of the Instructions and read through them carefully. Reviewing the instructions prior to starting the room search and sign-up process will save you valuable time.
