2013-2014 Room Sign-Up Process

12 noon, Wednesday, March 13 until 12 noon, Friday, March 15, 2013

The general Housing Lottery for current students will take place on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 12 noon - 10 p.m.; on Thursday, March 14, from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.; and on Friday, March 15 from 8 a.m. – 12 noon (or until all available room vacancies have been filled).

General Instructions

  • We recommend you refer to the Housing Lottery Frequently Asked Questions before you log into the myVCUHousing portal at your lottery number's allotted date and time (see the Housing Lottery Schedule, below).
  • The Housing Lottery is a timed process. Other students will also be online searching for a room at the same time you are. You will be navigated through the process by instructions within the portal.
  • Make sure you have access to your VCU eID and eID password before logging into the portal.
  • For the general Housing Lottery, single rooms may be available in the 12-month, year-round halls:  Ackell, Broad & Belvidere, Cary & Belvidere, West Grace South, and the new West Grace North residence hall. Single rooms may also be available in Cabaniss Hall and the MCV Low Rises (9-month halls on the MCV Campus). Double rooms may be available in the Gladding Residence Center Apartments and Cabaniss Hall (9-month halls), as well as in West Grace South and West Grace North.   • If you submitted both a 12-month and a 9-month housing application, you will be able to view room vacancies in both 12- and 9-month upperclassman halls. However, if you submitted only one housing application, you will be able to view vacancies only in the halls that match your application (either 12-month halls or 9-month halls). When you log into the portal, click the "Application" tab on the top header to choose either 12- or 9-month, then follow the instructions noted on the screen to view rooms. 

Roommate Pull-In Process

  • Students wishing to live together must be confirmed roommates. Among those roommates, the student with the lowest Lottery number will enter the MyVCUHousing portal during that number's allotted date/time (see schedule, below) to search for available spaces to accommodate the roommate group.
  • Under the "Rooms" header, the online system will display two room search links. Click "CAB/Low-Rises" to search for vacancies within Cabaniss Hall or the MCV Low Rises. Click "Apartments" to locate vacancies within the apartment-style residence halls.
  • You and your roommate(s) should review the vacancies carefully before you decide on a final room selection. Once you have selected and confirmed your room(s), you will not be able to cancel the space(s) and choose again.

2013-2014 Housing Lottery Room Sign-Up Schedule

  • Housing Lottery numbers will be computer generated at random (not based on the date your 2013-14 housing application was submitted online). Numbers will be emailed to students on Monday afternoon, March 11, 2013. To receive a Lottery number, you must have already submitted a Fall 2013-Spring 2014 housing application online by the February 8th deadline.
  • Locate your lottery number within the schedule below and note its corresponding date and log-in time. This is when you may log into the MyVCUHousing portal to choose a room from the available vacancies.
  • You may log into the MyVCUHousing portal at your exact allotted time, or any time thereafter, but not before. For example, if you have lottery number 100, you may log into the portal at exactly 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, or any time after 1:40 p.m. (up until 12 noon, Friday, March 15). But you may not log in before that scheduled time/date.
  • On March 13 - 15, the VCU Central Housing Office will be open between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day. If you have questions or experience problems with the Lottery process, call (804) 828-7666.
